A regular dental check-up does more than confirm your teeth are in good shape. It’s how we uncover small problems before they become bigger ones. Peninsula Dental Studio check-ups are thorough, unhurried, and designed to leave you with a clear picture of your oral health and anything that might need attention.

Whether you’re booking for yourself, your family, or both, we’re here to make routine dental care as straightforward as possible.

What is included in a dental check-up

Teeth inspection

We examine each tooth carefully for signs of decay, cavities, wear, chips, or damage. Early detection means simpler treatment. A small cavity addressed now is straightforward; left unattended, it can become a more involved procedure.

Gum assessment

Healthy gums are as important as healthy teeth. We check for signs of inflammation, recession, or infection, and screen for early indicators of gum disease (periodontitis). Gum disease is common and highly manageable when caught early.

Professional clean

Every check-up at Peninsula Dental Studio includes a professional clean using EMS Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT). This Swiss-developed, minimally invasive cleaning protocol uses a combination of air, warm water, and fine powder to gently remove biofilm, plaque, and tartar, including from hard-to-reach areas. There’s no scraping or harsh instrumentation, and most patients find it significantly more comfortable than a traditional scale and clean.

Dental X-rays

Where needed, we use digital dental X-rays to get a clear view of what’s happening beneath the surface. They detect issues that aren’t visible to the naked eye, including decay between teeth, bone changes, and developing wisdom teeth. Digital X-rays use a fraction of the radiation of traditional film X-rays.

Oral cancer screening

As part of every check-up, we screen for signs of oral cancer. Early detection is the most important factor in outcomes, and the screening itself is quick and non-invasive.

Personalised oral hygiene advice

We finish with practical, specific advice tailored to your mouth and your home care routine. This is not generic guidance. We provide targeted recommendations based on what we’ve observed during your examination.

Frequently Asked Questions?

How often should I have a dental check-up?

You can update this answer inside the page editor.

What if I haven’t been to the dentist in a while?

You’re not alone, and there’s no judgment here. If it’s been some time since your last check-up, we’ll simply take a thorough look at where things are and discuss any treatment you might need. The important thing is getting started. The longer a gap, the more valuable the check-up.

Are dental check-ups painful?

A standard check-up and clean is typically comfortable. If your teeth or gums are sensitive, or if we must address a significant plaque build-up, you may notice some mild pressure during the clean. Let our team know if you’re concerned and we can adjust our approach to keep you comfortable.

How long does a check-up take?

A routine check-up and clean generally takes between 45 minutes and an hour. If we need X-rays or require a more detailed examination, it may take a little longer. We’ll give you a realistic sense of timing when you book.

Does health insurance cover dental check-ups?

Many health insurance policies with dental extras cover routine check-ups and cleans, either fully or with a gap payment. We recommend checking your policy or calling your fund ahead of your appointment. Our team can also help you understand what’s claimable at the time of your visit.

Can I bring my children to Peninsula Dental Studio for check-ups?

Yes. We see patients of all ages, including children. Establishing regular check-ups early helps monitor the development of primary and adult teeth, address any emerging concerns, and build positive dental habits from a young age. We can often schedule back-to-back family appointments. Just ask us when you book.

Should I brush my teeth before my appointment?

Yes. Brushing and flossing before your appointment makes it easier for us to examine your teeth clearly and makes the clean more effective. A light meal beforehand is fine. But we suggest avoiding coffee or heavily coloured foods immediately before your visit.
